Second Hand Envy!

It is good to have friends that can appreciate some good second hand shopping. Just for you fashionable entertainment, my bestie Sam and I took a few shots of her well found duds on a recent girls night out.

Her jacket which I am incredibly jealous of is a Christian Dior jacket she found at the thift store and paid some unreasonable $5 bucks for! Ugh! The lucky girl!Sam who happens to love labels on the cheap just as much as I do paired her new jacket with a great pair of jeans, and a classic pair of black knee high boots. She also brought out a freshly removed from Grishley’s closet item… her new Louis Vuitton bag.

Sam got a ton of steals this week on her epic quest for fashion on a budget. She scored an amazing Pendleton camel colored suit, as well as the Dior jacket, and best of all an Oscar De la Renta blazer… atta girl!

Palmer/Pletsch & The “Kind of Lauren Bacall Look”

While attending the Palmer/Pletsch school of sewing in Portland this summer, I took a Pant Fitting class where i made a lovely pair of trousers that were high waisted, and ultimately became a cropped pair of swingy, breezy, and comfortable pants.

As I was fitting them, Pati Palmer or Mama Pati, as I like to refer to her commented that the fit that I had chosen and executed was; “kind of that Lauren Bacall look”. Now to my twenty year old mind flashes of the later year Bacall came to mind, and I questioned my taste in trousers.

But after a quick google search. I knew that I had made the right choice in my beloved swingy pants. Lauren Bacall was a kitten, scratch that Lauren Bacall was a goddess!

I have fallen so deeply in love with Bacall and her earlier photos that I have thrown several of her pics into my inspiration bin for my spring collection. This woman was what women were when women were ladies. Ugh….if only.

For my Bacall inspired look… I paired my beloved swingy trouser pants with some neutral heels a silk sleeveless blouse that I thrifted earlier in the day, and some lovely accessories!

To fully channel Bacall I tempted myself with a little bit of red lipstick, which mind you may or may not have happened because I couldn’t find my chapstick, but for fashionable purposes we’ll just say that it was deliberate.

I also broke in some new lovelies with my Bacall inspired look including my newly fitted white diver’s watch from Hong Kong, a lovely street purchase that probably set me back about $5 US.

And lastly, because I had a Chanel inspired piece on my wrist, I had to do Mama Coco proud and break out the real deal, so from the back of the closet I drug out possibly my most beloved item that brother got me…ahhh we just love her.

xoxo-Grishley.

P.S. for all of you sewing enthusiasts out there… if you wanna whip up your own pair check out McCall’s Pattern #M5239. You’ll not only be able to fit and master this look, but you will also have two other pant options that are also just as lovely. xoxo.

Goodwill Hunting

With balancing a summer internship that has me drooling over all of the job possibilities I had never considered on my wheel of prospective passionate ventures into adulthood, my outfit photos merely consist of the below photo… At least my day planner is accessorized well, and the depth of my black coffee so nicely complements the screen of my Blackberry…

But have no fear! Things are looking up, not only have I run into an abundance of marvelous finds at the thrift store lately, but I have also found time to get out and about a bit to take some photos for those of you bored by the less than daily posts of late.

My once emptied home closet seems to be filling up again with clothes from all around oregon and the world for that matter, and I am still in the works developing my childhood bedroom into a working sewing space and design studio, which hopefully I will have photos of for you by the end of next week.

Until then however I have decided to enclose a small but worthwhile photo of a recent purchase at the thrift store. Just take a small peak at the original price of the blazer below, and then at the thrift tag…then divide it in half. Can you say 97% off? Please and Thank you. Yup, you got it right this puppy only cost me $6.25, and is brand spankin’ new.

Until next time,

Grishley.

Mama Carly comes through in the Clutch!

With poor (literally) Grishley in the market to save up for a delicious new camera, she enlisted the help of amazing DIY blogger Carly. whom you may remember from the D.I.Y from your G.I.Y post many a month ago!

I asked the fairy-godmother of DIY herself what some of the best ways to profit on handcrafted goods might be as I make the lonely trek to the Canon mountain top!

To check out what Carly said check out her blog;

Pendleton Proud

Oh baby, do we love Pendleton! After doing a mildly draining brainstorm of what fabrics I would love to use for my Spring Collection this year, two things became very clear. 1- why in the world wasn’t I thinking of Pendleton in the first place, and 2-I kind of have a headache.

Moving on from all things not wooly, Pendleton is by far one of my favorite textile makers ever. I own several of their blazers, a few of their skirts, and a few of their shirts, all of which were thrifted. When you buy Pendleton you know that you are buying quality garments, and better yet you know you are buying a fashion garment that is going to be good to you for decades. The sweetest old man in the world who just happens to also be my grandpa has a Pendleton shirt that I have seen him wear probably 100 times, and he has had it for twice as long as I have been alive. That is how good this stuff is.

While the Pendleton brand itself crops up some amazing classic pieces, Pendleton is also know for partnering up with other companies to create beautiful garments like the ones you see here! These lovelies are all from the collaboration between Pendleton and Opening Ceremony. A beautiful collection that has Grishley drooling.

Pendleton just celebrated its 100 year anniversary, and might I add the Portland based company makes it just that much sweeter to be an Oregonian? xoxox

Champagne Wishes and Jewelry Dreams…

With all of the time that I have been investing in my new job, and getting my once childhood bedroom ready to be a sewing studio for the next few weeks I have sadly fallen behind on my beloved blog. While I am squeezing out every last moment I can with Boyfriend before he leaves for China for a month (Lucky!) I have been taking a throwback to my jewelry making days and brainstorming a few ideas that keep me occupied while my sweetie is halfway around the world.

The trend I believe is still “statement” how much can you say with one accessory? These lovelies are all from net-a-porter and are by a variety of fabulous designers!

Why we love Shopbop.com

Just when you thought that Shopbop.com couldn’t get any better they have thrown together some of the most accessible and trendy outfits to date! Just for your viewing pleasure!

The lovely people at Shopbop broke down three of their favorite looks with six complete outfits that will keep you drooling over those purchases you have yet to make for the coming season!

The first trend that Shopbop capitalizes on is the English Equestienne Trend. It just so happens to be Grishley’s favorite with a great mix of different textiles, and textures. I love the mixture of earthy cold weather tones, and there are some super cute shoes/boots in this collection that just may inspire some purchases in the coming weeks!

When you are not casually riding your horse though the english country side, you can check out the Shades of Grey trend. This trend is beautifully presented with tones of deep grey, and light grey. The color spans the day to night spectrum with looks that are office appropriate, and others that are downright date-worthy.

Lastly Shopbop takes you into the trenches. These looks are fantastic for all of you who own a few trenches but just so happen to have them hanging out in the corner of your closet.
