New Year…New Hair

After going a solid 19 years without dying my hair I went a nice rusty auburn last year and defeated my inner commitment-phobia. After experiencing a bit of grow out I retreated to my birth color of rich chocolate-y brown, but with a brand new year coming, and a need for change out came a brand new color, and a brand new look.

I’ve never been one to spend money on my hair, I’ve cut it myself for years, and have always colored it myself also. I figure I eat well, it grows quickly, and I’ve got some sexy Japanese genes (Thanks mom!) that keep it shiny and smooth so what else can I ask for?

So I looked for a little inspiration…Audrina

Me as a Superhero… Violet

Cameron

The only way to go I decided… was darker!

I choose the same box brand I always choose, out of all the fumes it seems to offend me the least so in my world that made it a winner!

There are a few tricks to keep your hair healthy when dying from a box.

1-Make sure you test your hair, it is bothersome and can take the excitement out of dying your hair, but once you’ve done it once you’ll never have to do it again… it’ll be worth it when you don’t go bald!

2-Condition baby! After a quick rinse after you dye condition like you have never conditioned before! I usually deny the next day’s wash as well by swapping in a rinse, and condition, followed by a leave in conditioner and a braid.

4- Air dry on your off days- Because you have inflicted a bit of damage on your crowning glory, keep the heat off of it for the days when you don’t really need it. For days off of school and work, let your locks air dry with a great leave in conditioner. The next time you blow dry and iron it your locks will know the difference!

5- Last but not least, hit it with some cold water! To lock in the post dye shine, make sure that you keep your locks out of the hot water! Shower like normal, but finish your hair with a bit of cold water, it will not only help wake you up, but will also lock up your strands with all the yummy conditioning proteins!

My new hair is a bit of a mix of superhero, and awesomeness….
Here I come new year!

Back in Orange & Black

It is about that time of year again. Not only did Grishley get to celebrate a first home game victory against the Cardinals, but the Oregon rain made a not so necessary, but expected appearance at Friday’s game.

I love OSU. For any new readers out there who are making their way to little ol’ Corvallis for the first time in the coming days, be prepared for the ride of your lives. It is Fall, Football Season, and Officially one week away from the start of classes.

This is the deep breath before the plunge back into the daily grind. I am more excited than ever. Here’s to a great new year!

Photo Diary… Summer 2010

This summer was absolutely amazing. Enough said.

Metamorphosis

Its good to have friends in high places, but it is great to have friends who share a passionate love for design like Grishley does. This past summer fellow OSU Undergrad Rachel Pavlis, painstakingly pulled off one of the cutest and most thoughtful collections I have seen done by a student in a long long while. Pavlis pulled off an impressive mix of textiles, and created a beautiful story line for her collection;

Metamorphosis.

“Metamorphosis was designed as an autobiographical depiction of my design journey. Using the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly as a metaphor, the garments tell a story in reveal of my first fashion collection”. Pavlis said of her collection.

“I am often inspired by nature because it is the purest source, untouched and open to translation” She added. “Styles and silhouettes reflect different stages of the metamorphic process with the first caterpillar look transitioning into the 4th cocoon look and then final butterfly look.”

Pavlis took on a number of challenges in her pursuit of her expressive collection; “I spent about two months pulling together the 7-look, 9-piece collection from concept to completion on top of balancing my part-time job at the Valerie Joseph Boutique.

Most of the work, however, came together in the last month,” she noted, explaining how fabric was not only a key player in her collection, but also part of her inspiration.

“Fabric was an integral component of the collection and listening to its drape influenced my designs as well. I selected luxurious materials for a woman of exquisite taste. Fabrics include silk chiffon, charmeuse and dupioni, silk velvet burnout, couture beaded lace, Italian wool bouclé, and metallic brocade.”

Pavlis created a collection that not only showed off her style, but also her versatility as a designer offering up a collection with rich diversity in looks ranging from blouses and tanks, to flirty dresses, skirts, and evening gowns.

“I wanted the collection to come alive and capture one’s attention with sheer beauty. I sought to create something fanciful, yet completely wearable.

As part of the metamorphosis concept, I want women who wear my clothing to feel transformed and confident in themselves. Every woman needs a wardrobe that makes her feel like a million dollar butterfly,” Pavlis added of her whimsical collection.

I am pleased with the positive reactions I have received from those who have viewed my collection and am proud of my accomplishments in such a limited time frame. It was especially surreal to have a woman recognize me at the mall and inquire if my garments were for sale, a real validation of my work. In constant search of refinement, there are definitely pieces that I would still like to tweak and embellish, and I am considering expanding the collection for an encore showing in Oregon.

“In revealing my first collection, Metamorphosis communicated who I am as a designer as I take flight into the fashion industry. My style is vivid, whimsical, and detail-oriented for a young woman is fun and confident with a unique affinity for art and fashion.”

Bravo!-Grishley

The most powerful model in the world.

When it comes to being a supermodel, there is one woman who does it better than anyone else. You may not think it when you first lay eyes on her, but Lara Stone is an absolute powerhouse. Not only has she been splashed across numerous September issues this fall, but she has also been one of the most out of the ordinary beauties to come along in ages. Ages.

The IMG model has graced the cover of Vogue, W, and almost every other international fashion magazine on the planet. Also starring in print ads for everyone from Calvin Klein to DKNY.

This is one of the earliest moments I remember looking at Lara and realizing that she was going to take fashion in a different direction. Cozied up alongside the infamously fantastic Kate Moss, and one of my personal favorites Daria Werbowy. Ugh… Three amazing women, three amazing stories, and three footprints on the fashion industry. The woman of the moment…
