Grishley’s Year in Review

One amazing year! On to the next one!

This year was absolutely incredible! I turned 20! Went to my first tradeshow in Las Vegas, and won my first design competition! I traveled around the world for fashion week in Hong Kong, and I completed my first internship with Wisner Creative and Palmer/Pletsch. I graduated from the Portland Sewing School by the graces of Pati Palmer and Marta Alto, and I was backstage for all of Portland Fashion Week! I designed for, modeled in and coordinated a benefit show for AIDS awareness, and started the collection of my dreams

I am so excited for what is to come in the next year! I will be turning 21, showing my first collections at Junk 2 Fashion Funk, Mom’s Weekend, and the Spring Collection, and I’ll hopefully be tackling a phenomenal internship! I absolutely cannot wait!

Happy New Year!

McCall’s patterns to fall in love with!

A few McCall’s patterns Grishley is craving!

I haven’t bought any patterns for what seems like forever now, since taking a design class this summer, as well as taking pattern drafting this fall. But while filming a “How to Sew Jeans” DVD with Mama Pati (Palmer) and Mama Marta (Alto) I was given the privilege of looking through the brand new McCall’s pattern book! Here are a few of the current patterns that I am in love with, and soon I will have to post some of the new ones that I got to preview as soon as they come out!

M6028-I have been thinking about buying this pattern for quite some time now, I know it would be easy to fit, and alter, but somehow I have always talked myself into something a bit more flowy and frilly. However with the cold weather months rolling in, perhaps this dress will be great under a nice trench coat with boots and tights!

M6241- We all know how much Grishley loves something a bits slouchy, and quick to sew, and I am falling in love with this little tunic top. Perhaps changing up sleeve lengths will be great to play with!

Christmas Eve Cookies!

When it came to making holiday cookies, I whipped out this yummy batch  of Russian Tea Cakes…

I used almonds instead of pecans, and swopped in whole wheat flower instead of all purpose which added an extra element of nuttyness. Yum!!! I remember making these little lovelies as a kid, and remembering how much they reminded me of snowballs! They look ultra cute cuddled up next to some gingerbread men in a holiday cookie tin, but I am going to try them soon with white flower and lemon extract and crasins! I feel like they would be a nice addition to a summertime tea scape! We’ll have to thank my roommate for being such an excellent hand model for these cookie shots. He helped gobble them up!

Dinner for one?

Finals week ended and before I knew it all of my usual dinner guests had gone back home for their mothers to cook for them I suppose… But here in ol’ Corvallis I was still knee deep in an unfinished collection, and in a much needed attempt at saving money for Christmas presents, I decided to see what I had left in my cupboard and went to town.

I set my sights on homemade pizza, and made the most simple whole wheat crust ever. I used one packet of yeast and expanded it with some warm water then added two cups of whole wheat flower and mixed in olive oil and water until I got the right consistency. I let the dough rise for about 10 minutes then started with the toppings.

I sliced up some salami, and tossed on some artichoke hearts and feta cheese, to make sure everyone stayed in place I used a bit of parm. and mozerella to tie the whole pie together. The secret ingredient for this pie however was a whole sliced pear, which added just enough sweetness to this savory bite!

On the side of my yummy pizza I boiled up some asparagus, and tossed it with herbs, olive oil and parm! Yummy!xoxox-Grishley
